Maschinenpistole 43, Maschinenpistole 44 dan Sturmgewehr 44 (MP43, MP44 dan StG44) adalah senapan otomatis selective-fire yang dikembangkan oleh Jerman pada Perang Dunia II, dalam program Maschinenkarabiner (karabin mesin) mereka.

MP43, MP44, dan StG44 adalah senapan yang hampir serupa, dengan sedikit perbedaan pada produksi dan waktu pembuatan. Ketiganya dikembangkan dari Mkb 42(H). Perbedaan nama ini ada karena rumitnya penamaan senjata pada era Nazi Jerman. 'StG' adalah singkatan dari Sturmgewehr (senapan serbu, assault rifle), yang menggabungkan sifat-sifat karabin, submachine gun, dan senapan otomatis. Setelah dipakainya StG44, istilah ini menjadi lumrah untuk mendeskripsikan tipe senjata seperti ini.

Senapan ini memakai peluru 7,92 x 33 mm, yang juga dikenal dengan nama 7,92 mm Kurz (berarti 'pendek'). Peluru ini adalah modifikasi dari peluru standar 7,92 × 57 mm Mauser. Melalui kombinasi dengan kemampuan selective-fire, senjata ini menghasilkan semburan setingkat submachine gun, dengan akurasi dan daya setingkat senapan K98 Mauser pada jarak dekat. Walau begitu, StG44 memiliki jangkauan dan daya yang lebih rendah daripada senapan-senapan pada era itu. Karakter ini mengikuti hasil studi yang dipakai oleh Wehrmacht pada saat itu, yaitu bahwa hampir semua pertempuran terjadi pada jarak kurang dari 300 meter dan mayoritas kurang dari 200 meter. Senapan lain dianggap terlalu besar kekuatannya. Senjata StG44 berhasil membuktikan keunggulannya pada Front Timur sewaktu ia banyak dipakai dan dianggap lebih baik daripada senapan lain pada saat itu.

Sebelum memakai nama MP44 atau Stg 44,dia menyandang nama Maschinenkarabiner 43.Senapan tersebut pada awalnya tidak diresmikan oleh Hitler sebelum menunjukan aksinya di Front Timur.Setelah menunjukan kehebatanya,Maschinenkarabiner pun diresmikan oleh Hitler pada tahun 1943 dan mengganti nama menjadi MP43 dan kelak MP44 atau Stg 44. Sebenarnya pemakaian MP44 adalah "sembunyi-sembunyi" kalau-kalau Hitler akan tidak senang dengan senjata tersebut.Angkatan bersenjata Nazi yang menerima senjata tersebut pertama kali adalah, SS Schutzstaffel. Senjata ini pun menjadi favorit SAS Inggris apabila mereka kehabisan peluru Sten atau Brengun.Senjata ini pun dapat menjadi "Light Support Weapon" bagi SAS apabila Brengun mereka habis.






Konon..dari STG-44 inilah yang mengilhami Mikhail Kalashnikov utk menciptakan senapan legendaris AK-47..
